The First Year
In 1991, the Montana High School Association sanctioned six teams for soccer. Our Capital High program was one of them. Scoring 16 goals and allowing 17 in our first year, we finished 4th at state with much promise ahead.
The State Championships
We have won two state championships in our program's history.
In 1997, the best defensive team the state had ever seen (and seen since) scored 55 goals and allowed only 2 all season. In an undefeated campaign that included 13 wins and 1 tie, the program captured its first state championship by not allowing a goal at the state tournament.
In 2001, after a rocky start to the season, the team had some heart-stopping results at the state tournament that included a penalty kick shootout in the semifinals and overtime in the championship. Going up against Helena High in the championship, sophomore Peter Hiel scored the lone goal to secure our second banner.
Our program has been to four state championship games in total, never falling in regulation. In 2007 and 2010, the championship was decided by penalty kicks; both resulted in second place finishes.

Going Forward
Each year the program strives to develop student athletes who dedicate themselves to their craft, teammates, and coaches while competing at a high level. Through the lens of soccer, the staff aims to instill the values that lead to young men who take pride in their work ethic, are attentive to the finest of details, seek to be positive role models, and lead selflessly as teammates.
By the season's conclusion, the players should have an appreciation for the effort they put forth, friendships that last a lifetime, and a sport to enjoy for years to come. Many of the current and former staff are former players from within the program, so, on top of being model citizens, there is also a hope players will give back in the future.
